The Following are Homeopathic Remedies for common Ailments using Medicinal Herbs. It is a good idea to stock Homeopathic Medicines and grow Medicinal Herb gardens because there could come a time when you cannot run out to a clinic or hospital. It is important to gather knowledge and hone skills surrounding these circumstances to become more self reliant or even just more health conscious. Overuse of antibiotics and pharmaceuticals is costly and largely doesn't need to happen. There are many things we can take care of through Homeopathic means and caring for our bodies.
⦁ Mullein- The herb Mullein is beneficial for Respiratory infections and Ear Infections. In the case of Respiratory Illness it comes highly recommended in use for coughs, colds, sore throat, laryngitis, tonsilitis, whooping cough, influenza and asthma. You may drink it as a tea for Respiratory illness. Drink 1-4 cups daily. Mullein Garlic Ear oil by Herb Pharm on Vitacost is something I have invested in for possible ear infections after I got my first ever double ear infection as an adult last year. They have one for children and one for kids 12 and up. You may also use it as a more natural way to soften ear wax instead of using Q-tips.
⦁ Vitamin D3- Most of the U.S. population is deficient in Vitamin D which lends itself to Immune health, helps with Depression and aids in the absorption of calcium, magnesium and phosphate. I would recommend 10,000 IUs. 10,000 IUs may seem like a lot but it is very important to have an abundant source of Vitamin D3 during the winter months due to less sun. You may take this dosage all year. Make sure to take this Vitamin with a health fat for maximum absorption by the body. Avocado, nuts, seeds, olive oil, coconut oil, and fatty fish are all good healthy fat options. (Fat soluble meaning stored in the liver or adipose tissue of the body)
⦁ Vitamin C- Water soluble meaning that it is not stored by the body. It plays an important role in Immune health, scurvy prevention, wound healing, and enhancing brain function. Be careful not to exceed 2,000 mcgs per day as it can lead to development of Kidney stones and digestion disruption.
⦁ Turmeric- Curcuminoids are the star with this supplement and they have high antioxidant properties. The antioxidant properties fight free radicals which damage cells and are known to accelerate cancers. Turmeric helps fight cancer, heart disease, aids gout, and prevents Alzheimer's. It has antifungal and antibacterial properties (disrupts fungal cell membranes for better outcomes when treating fungal issues and reduces the growth of disease-causing bacteria). This supplement has powerful anti-inflammatory capabilities that can help arthritis and replace ibuprofen without the digestive side effects. To enhance absorption take a supplement containing bioperine (black pepper) or take a fermented variety.
⦁ Magnesium- This is great to have on hand either in supplement form, in the form of Epsom salts or as a topical gel/lotion. It aids the body in temperature regulation, eases cramps (menstrual) aches and muscle pains, depression, eases constipation, supports restorative sleep, helps support calcium absorption by the body, plays and important role in strengthening teeth and bones. Natural sources outside of supplementing include dark leafy vegetables, tomatoes, beets, lima beans, sweet potatoes, pumpkin seeds, peanuts, cornmeal, chocolate, and wheat flour.
⦁ Ginger- This herb is known mostly for its ability to aid in digestive upset and nausea. It can also ease coughs, colds, inflammation and increases circulation. This is a good tea to drink on a cold day when trying to make your extremities warm up. It may also keep you from getting sick as compounds in it have been shown to destroy many of the viruses that cause the common cold. One downside is that Ginger may cause mild heartburn in some. You also should not combine Ginger with anticoagulants (blood thinners)
⦁ Himalayan Pink Salt- Sodium is essential to proper hydration, fluid balance, contracting and relaxing muscles, sending nervous system impulses, preventing low blood pressure. This salt is one of the purest salts you can consume. It is made up of 98 percent sodium chloride and has trace minerals potassium, magnesium, and calcium. Research suggest that eating salt can reduce the risk of infection and kill bacteria (salt water as a healing agent), may also have a positive effect on depression.
⦁ Coconut Oil- A healthy dietary fat with a variety of uses from Cooking to use as a skincare ingredient. It is said to have antifungal properties (i have tested this and it works well) antibacterial properties, and antiviral properties. It can be used in homemade deodorant and toothpaste recipes and even provides some UV protection much like sunscreen. You may use this as a wound ointment and as a carrier oil for essential oils though fractioned coconut oil would work better as it stays liquid. Coconut Oil is packed with protein, vitamin E and fatty acids. This is also a healthy oil for pets and pet care!
⦁ Activated Charcoal- Activated charcoal pills can absorb many micro-particles and toxins in the mouth that can cause cavities, bad breath, and other common oral diseases as well as whiten the teeth when the powder is used to brush with. It absorbs toxins form your body and can cure hangover symptoms as a result. It lowers you cholesterol and helps in preventing heart disease and atherosclerosis, heart attacks, strokes, and coronary heart disease. Activated Charcoal can be used to absorb poison if taken quickly after the poison is ingested preventing a potentially fatal overdose. It cleanses your digestive system, can be used in hair and skin care for excess oil, prevents kidney disease and can reduce inflammation when applied topically to bug bites an rashes. Other uses include mold cleansing and air purifying.
⦁ Iodine Supplement- Regulates body temperature, applied topically as a wound cleanser, as a tablet can be used to purify water. Iodine improves cognitive function, may help treat fibrocystic breast disease. Iodine protects your thyroid from Nuclear Fallout (radiation).
⦁ Bentonite Clay- Sodium bentonite clay is for external use ONLY. Calcium bentonite clay can be consumed or use internally. This powdered clay has some pretty cool benefits. Make sure to buy food grade if you would like to take it internally. Externally it can be used for skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. It binds to bacteria and toxins in your skin and draws them out. It can be added to deodorant recipes, toothpaste recipes and can be used as a face mask. A way to implement its detoxing abilities externally is to add it to a bath. Taken internally it offers probiotic supplementation, detoxification, constipation easing, boosts your immune system, improves oral health, boosts energy, reduces inflammation, helps with food poisoning. You may give it to pets safely for digestive upset, use it as a baby powder alternative and purify water with it.
⦁ Dandelion root tea- Dandelion root is used for the treatment of muscle aches, loss of appetite, upset stomach, intestinal gas, gallstones, joint pain, eczema and bruises. It also increases urine production and serves as a laxative to increase bowel movements .Some people use dandelion to treat infections, especially viral infections and even cancer. It’s also used as a skin toner, blood tonic and digestive tonic. Used as a tea it is excellent for Detoxification of the body. Dandelion root is rich in Vitamins K and A, fiber and antioxidants. The good thing is you can dig up your own from your yard, dry the roots up and roast/process them yourself if you live in an area where they are common!
⦁ Raw Honey/Manuka Honey- Raw honey has a host of benefits. You can use it to speed wound healing and prevent wound infection when applied topically. It can be an excellent way to heal a sore throat and has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Raw Honey is rich in antioxidants because of its high concentration of phytonutrients which also lend its antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is said to also to boost the immune system and have anticancer properties. Raw Honey is prebiotic meaning it feeds the good bacteria in your intestines which is vital for digestive as well as overall health. Plus Honey never spoils...it may crystallize but gently warming it back up will revive the consistency.
